UP Farms is a vertical hydroponic urban farm located just outside of Chicago. UP grows Microgreens, Wild Heirloom Arugula, & Rare Heirloom Fruit. UP Farms was started by James Ratke and is now run by James and his wife, Sully Ratke.
UP Farms started as an artisanal microgreen farm in 2013; eventually growing up to 75 different varieties of micros at the same time.
In the fall of 2016, the brand new UP Farms facility was completed. The impossibly cool new farm is a mere 1800 square feet in size. Do not cackle!
We are DANG proud of our size !!
Our total grow square footage is over 18,000 square feet. Our total grow square footage (given our season-less growing compared to that of a traditional farm) has the output equivalent of 8+ Acres!!
8+ acres of food in just 4% of 1 acre?!?!
At UP Farms, we take vertical farming very seriously. We don't exaggerate when we say 'VERTICAL'. We use 100% (and then some) of each space that we farm.
